Cal Defeats Oregon State, 62-57
BERKELEY, Calif. - Patrycja Czepiec led the California Golden
Bears (6-8, 2-3 Pac-10) with 24 points, as they squeaked by the Oregon
State Beavers, 62-57, in the third weekend of Pac-10 play in Harmon Gym.
The Oregon State Beavers (7-6, 1-3 Pac-10) opened the first half with a
13-6 run, but Cal answered with an 11-1 run, putting them on top of the
Beavers, 17-14. The teams continued to battle through a very tight first
half of play.
Oregon State held the lead in the second half until the midway point,
when the Bears tied it at 41. Cal led 54-51, but OSU sunk two free
throws to make it a one-point game with 1:13 left.
Czepiec was fouled with 1:07 remaining on the clock, sunk both free
throws and eventually won the battle.
It marked the sixth time this season that Czepiec scored 20 or more
points.
Tina Lelas led the Beavers with 14 points, while Cal's Paige Bowie registered
10 of her own.
