Pacific Sweeps No. 8 Cal
STOCKTON, Calif. -- Pacific swept the eighth-ranked California
Golden Bears in a softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Bill Simoni
Field by scores of 6-3 and 3-1.
In the first game, Koren Twilla gave the Tigers an early 3-0 lead as she
hit a three-run home run over the leftfield wall in the bottom of the
second inning. Debbie Wilson's run-scoring single in the bottom of the
third gave pitcher Brandee McArthur all the run support she would need
as she completed the game, giving up only five hits.
The Golden Bears struck first in the second game, scoring their only run
of the game on Melanie McCart's RBI double in the top of the first.
Tristan Austin quickly tied the score for the Tigers as she hit a solo
home run over the leftfield wall in the bottom of the second. Koren
Twilla gave the Tigers the lead for good with a run-scoring single later
in the inning. Leslie Rodgers gave up one run on two hits en route to
earning a complete game victory in her first start of the season.
