HEAD COACH STEVE DESIMONE
Head coach>Steve Desimone is in his 34th season at the helm of the Cal men's golf team in 2012-13 and has been named the Pac-12 Men's Golf of the Year for each of the last two seasons for the second and third times in his career. His club has been ranked No. 1 nationally since shortly after winning the PING/Golfweek Preview in late September of 2012. The Bears have equaled an unofficial NCAA single-season record previously established by the 1985-86 Oklahoma State squad by winning 10 of their first 12 tournaments in 2012-13. Dating back to the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign, Cal has captured 16 of its last 26 events and has finished in the top five in all 26. Desimone directed Cal to an NCAA title in 2004 during one of the program's eight NCAA Championship appearances, including a current school-record run of three in a row that began in 2010. Desimone is taking a team to NCAA Regional action for the 18th time in 2013 with a current streak of seven in a row that began in 2007 and is one shy of the school-record eight straight from 1997-2004. Desimone also led Cal to its first NCAA Regional and Pac-12 titles in 2012 before defending the conference crown in 2013 for the 54th overall tournament win of his career. Here are some of his thoughts on ...

The stretch drive
"This is always the fun time of the year. You start with the conference championship, and we were successful there. As we now get to the NCAA Regional, we're certainly not going to look past that. It will be very competitive. There are some really good teams in the regional. We're going to have to be ready, and we're going to have to play well. We haven't played the course before, but the one thing I've heard is that it's a good, fair golf course."

Winning the Pac-12 title and tying the NCAA's all-time unofficial single-season win record
"This was really fairy-tale stuff defending the Pac-12 title and winning for the 10th time to equal a record that's stood since 1986. It doesn't get much better than that."

Being named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year
"It's a huge honor and gratifying to be selected by your fellow coaches. It's recognition that we've had an historic year."

Being the No. 1 team in the country
"It's great, it's fun and it has expectations. We know that we've got people that want to be a part of what's going on and knock us off, but I'd rather be in this position than anyplace else. It's a real honor to be the No. 1 team in the country, make no mistake about it, and our job is to be there at the end of the season."
