BERKELEY - Along with her team-high 49 RBI and 15 home runs, Cal captain Lindsey Ziegenhirtis leading the Golden Bears off the field and in the classroom as well. The senior catcher has been named to the 2013 Capital One All-Academic District 8 First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
The psychology major has maintained a 3.77 GPA while playing in 197 games for the Blue and Gold throughout her career, including 40 starts behind the plate thus far this season. She owns a .311 batting average with a .756 slugging percentage.
The athletes selected to each team are recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletics and academics. The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Along with her fellow first-team Academic All-District honorees, Ziegenhirt advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, from which first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Ziegenhirt was also named to the Academic All-District First Team in 2011.
