MILTON, Ga. - Cal men's golf head coach Steve Desimone will call in to interviewed Tuesday morning at 6:20 a.m. PT on the Murph & Mac show with Brian Murphy and Paul McCaffrey. Desimone's top-ranked Golden Bears will tee off three hours later (12:20 p.m. ET/9:20 a.m. PT) in the first round of the NCAA Championship at the Capital City Club's Crabapple Course.
Cal is concluding its historic 2012-13 season at the NCAA Championship, where the Bears will play for a fourth consecutive season and 12th time in school history. Cal won its lone national title in 2004 and had its second-best finish last season when the Bears tied for third by reaching the match-play semifinals.
Cal has broken the modern-era NCAA single-season win record in 2012-13 with 11 victories in its first 13 tournaments, bettering the previous record of 10 wins recorded by the 1985-86 Oklahoma State team.
Among Cal's 11 victories are second consecutive NCAA Regional and Pac-12 titles in their last two events. The Bears were also winners earlier in the season at the Gopher Invitational, PING/Golfweek Preview (shared with Georgia Tech), Pac-12 Preview, Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Fresno State Lexus Classic, Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters and Western Intercollegiate.
