California ace Jolene Henderson added another honor to an already impressive athletic resume with her placement on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Second Team. Henderson joins 53 other players from 32 Division I NCAA softball programs on the All-America squads, the NFCA announced Wednesday.
The standout senior from Elk Grove, Calif. helped the Bears to a 38-19 record along with a nation's-best 28th consecutive postseason berth. She topped her career with a no-hitter against Valparaiso at the Ann Arbor Regional in her final win. Along the way, Henderson became Cal's all-time winningest pitcher with 130 career wins. She ranks second all time for games (186), games started (143), saves (9), complete games (123) and innings pitched (1,095), and is one of just four Cal pitchers to toss more than 1,000 strikeouts. She was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week 13 times in her four seasons, a number matched only by Michele Granger at Cal, and the third-most weekly honors in the conference.
For her 2013 campaign, Henderson was awarded All-Pac-12 First Team and NFCA All-Pacific Region First Team honors. She was also a Top 10 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year and the Senior CLASS Award, and was announced Wednesday as a Senior CLASS Award First Team member.
Henderson has received All-American distinction three times. She was named an NFCA All-American First Team selection in 2011 and 2012.
