BERKELEY – Cal football head coach Sonny Dykes and Heisman Trophy candidate junior quarterback Jared Goff will chat live with fans on Facebook this week as part of the Cal Spring Football Experience Chat Series. Dykes will answer questions Tuesday at 2 p.m. PT, with Goff’s session slated for Thursday at 5 p.m. PT.
Fans can ask questions of Dykes by signing into their Facebook account, liking the Cal Athletics Facebook page and clicking on the Q&A announcement.
Dykes is moving full-steam ahead with the rebuilding of a Cal football program that finished the 2014 season with a 5-7 overall record and 3-6 conference mark to place fourth in the Pac-12 North, which was its highest showing since the 2011 Holiday Bowl team was also fourth. The team's four-game turnaround from a 1-11 season in 2013 was its biggest since the 2002 squad was 7-5 overall after the 2001 club finished 1-10. Cal has players that accounted for more than 84 percent of its offensive yardage in the following categories in 2014 schedule to return in 2015 – receiving (84.6%, 3513 of 4152), all-purpose (89.7%, 6591 of 7347), passing (99.7%, 4139 of 4152), total offense (99.3%, 5901 of 5942) and rushing (98.4%, 1762 of 1790). Returnees also accounted for 88.5% of the team’s touchdowns (54 of 61) in 2014.
Goff broke 15 school records in 2014 including single-season passing yards (3973), passing touchdowns (35) and total offense (3929) while completing 316-of-509 passes (62.1%) with seven interceptions for a 147.59 passer efficiency rating that was the fourth-best single-season mark in school history. Goff’s 7481 career passing yards, 53 passing touchdowns and 7375 yards of total offense are all third in school history, while he has already registered all-time school records with 12 career 300-yard passing performances and 17 250-yard passing games. Goff has completed 636-of-1040 passes (61.2%) in his career with 17 interceptions for a 135.13 passer efficiency rating that ranks fourth on Cal’s all-time list. He has played in and started all 24 games possible over his first two seasons at Cal in 2013 and 2014.
Cal will host open practices Monday (4:15 p.m. PT) and Wednesday (4 p.m. PT) before concluding 2015 spring workouts on Cal Day with the Cal Spring Football Experience to be televised live by Pac-12 Networks on Saturday, April 18 (11 a.m. PT).
The Cal Spring Football Experience is an admission free and interactive event that gives thousands of Cal fans an opportunity to get to know players and coaches in the Cal football program on an up close basis. Several former Cal football players have attended the event in the past and are expected to attend again this year. Super Bowl XLVIII champion and NFL All-Pro running back Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks made a surprise appearance in 2013.
