SANTA MONICA – The Cal pair of freshmen Mackenzie Feldman and Sammy Furlan advanced to the semifinals of the Silver Bracket at the Pac-12 Invitational at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica on Sunday.
Feldman-Furlan were the No. 5 seed in the tournament and won their quarterfinal match over fourth-seeded UCLA’s Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver, 21-17, 20-22, 15-6. Feldman and Furlan ultimately went down against No. 1 seed Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler of USC, 21-9, 21-14.
Feldman and Furlan’s win over the UCLA pair was their fifth win in the past seven matches.
Cal’s other win during Sunday’s play came from top pair Sarah Cole and Emily Lunt, who were the No. 5 seed in the Gold Bracket of the tournament and defeated Arizona’s Emily Kiser and Rachel Rhoades in the consolation round, 20-22, 21-16, 15-12.
The Bears now have a week off before closing out the 2015 season next Sunday against rival Stanford at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts.
