BERKELEY – California’s Lyann Hoang claimed ITA Scholar-Athlete status, the ITA announced on Thursday, after posting a 3.91 grade-point average for her freshman season.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
Hoang, a native of Brisbane, Australia, compiled a 10-9 singles record and a 12-10 doubles mark for the 2014-15 season. She contributed to a Cal squad that posted a 22-4 overall record, took second place in the Pac-12 Conference with a 9-1 record and reached the NCAA team tournament’s round of 16.
