Plovdiv, Bulgaria – Members of the California men’s crew program continued to compete at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships on Saturday in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
There are a total of nine Golden Bears representing six countries.
Junior Kyle Flagg stroked the United States 4- to a fourth place finish in Saturday’s A Final with a time of 6:14.780. Romania won the event with a time of 6:10.640.
Louis Snelson (stroke) and Jack Cleary (bow) served in the Australian 4+ that finished fifth in Saturday’s A Final with a time of 6:28.970. Italy won the event with a time of 6:24.570.
After placing second in its heat on Thursday, the United States men’s eight, featuring Golden Bears Justin Murphy in the six seat and Jordan van der Stoep in the three seat, won its repechage on Friday and will race in Sunday’s A Final.
Poland’s single scull, featuring Cal sophomore Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk placed second in the semifinals on Saturday with a time of 7:04.160 to advance to Sunday’s A Final. Golden Bear newcomer Marcin Pawlowski (two-seat) guided the Poland 4x entry to a third-place finish in Saturday’s semifinals with a time of 5:54.310 to advance to Sunday’s A Final.
Sophomore Martin Mackovic stroked the Serbian 2- to a second-place finish in the semifinals on Saturday with a time of 6:42.010 to advance to Sunday’s A Final.   
Cal newcomer Ferdinand Querfeld was part of the Austrian pair that placed third in its semifinal race on Saturday with a time of 6:41.290 to reach Sunday’s A Final.
