Carrie Lingo, the 2009 USA Field Hockey Player of the Year, is in her first season as assistant coach after Shellie Onstead added her to the coaching staff last July. A 2008 Olympian, Onstead and Lingo have worked together on the national scene when Onstead was an assistant coach with the U.S. National team.

Lingo was on the U.S. squad that placed eighth at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. She played in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, and is the most experienced active U.S. player, after collecting 183 international appearances or caps.

A star at North Carolina from 1997-2001, Lingo graduated from North Carolina in December of 2002 with degrees in psychology and communication. A first-team All-American as a senior, Lingo posted nine goals. She was also named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Team in 2002 as one of the top 50 field hockey players in conference history

In a previous assistant coaching stint, Lingo worked as a volunteer assistant coach at Indiana from 2008-09.
