Biography

2024-25: Competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship for the second time and qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship in a stellar sophomore season that included doubles All-America honors with Jessica Alsola…paired with Alsola to rank fourth in the final ITA doubles poll…that ranking earned the duo its All-America status…the tandem was named to the All-ACC Second Team in doubles, while Mushika was named to the All-ACC Second Team in singles…also in the final season rankings, Mushika and Katja Wiersholm were 44th in doubles, while Mushika was 32nd in singles…one of six Bears named to the All-ACC Academic Team…compiled records of 18-12 in singles and 19-8 in doubles (including 15-4 with Alsola) in her sophomore season…in their first tournament together as a duo, Mushika and Alsola reached the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships to qualify for NCAA doubles…in the NCAA first round, the 16th-ranked tandem of Mushika and Alsola fell to UCLA's top-seeded and 15th-ranked Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle 6-3, 6-3…in NCAA singles, the 107th-ranked Mushika beat Auburn’s 82nd-ranked Angella Okutoyi 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of 64, but fell to Stanford’s fourth-ranked Connie Ma 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 32…during the dual-match season, Mushika clinched Cal wins over Boston College (7-0), No. 2 Virginia (4-1) and No. 34 Wake Forest (4-1)…in the upset win over the second-ranked Cavaliers, Mushika beat No. 24 Sara Ziodato 7-6(4), 6-3 at court-one singles, after the 12th-ranked Mushika and Alsola defeated the top-ranked Melodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky 7-6(4) to clinch the doubles point.

2023-24: With a 27-9 record, the Japan native produced Cal’s second-most singles wins behind fellow newcomer Lan Mi and posted a 25-14 doubles record playing exclusively with Hannah Viller Moeller…the duo finished the season with a No. 18 ranking after competing in the NCAA Doubles Championship…Mushika earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention…in the fall, Mushika and Viller Moeller captured the top doubles title in the Cal Fall Invitational and won the title in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships…the two Bears reached the round of 16 in the ITA National Fall Championships, with their loss at nationals representing their lone setback in the fall, when they finished 11-1…in the spring, Mushika clinched four Cal wins including a big 4-3 triumph over No. 3 Pepperdine on April 6 in Berkeley; in that match, Mushika bested the 90th-ranked Anna Campana 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-4…she also clinched wins over No. 21 Washington (4-1), No. 41 Arizona (5-2) and Hawaii (6-1).
 
Personal/Previous: Global studies major…her older sister, Chiho, competed as an undergraduate at San Francisco and finished her playing career as a grad student at TCU in 2023-24…her twin sister, Mio, will be a freshman at San Diego in the fall of 2024.
