Trevor Dunbar begins his first season as assistant coach for cross country and distance running at Cal in 2021.
Dunbar spent the last two years as an Operations Assistant with the distance program at Florida State before joining Cal Cross Country Head Coach and Assistant Coach for distances,
Bobby Lockhart, who is entering his second year with the Golden Bears in 2020-21.
Dunbar helped the Seminoles return to the NCAA Cross Country Championships for a second consecutive year in 2019 after a year of experience as a volunteer assistant coach in 2018-19 on Coach Johnson's staff at Boston University. Prior to that he spent two years (2014-16) as a volunteer coach at Oregon, his alma mater, where he assisted then-head cross country coach Andy Powell with training plans, recruiting visits, managing workouts and coordinating summer camps.
He also continued his running career at the professional level, first representing Nike Inc. (2014-17) prior to moving on to the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) in 2018, running both at national and international competitions. Dunbar has represented Team USA both in cross country and on the track.
The Kodiak, Alaska native began his decorated running career as a seven-time high school state champion and still holds multiple state records. Dunbar went on to the University of Portland, where he earned two cross country All-American honors while competing for the Pilots (2009-11) before transferring to Oregon. He helped the Ducks to a pair of NCAA track & field championships, grabbing five All-American honors while establishing collegiate-bests of 3:38.38 in the 1,500-meters, 7:51.55 in the 3,000-meters, 13:26.90 in the 5,000-meters and 28:52.39 in the 10,000-meters.
Dunbar graduated from Oregon with a business administration degree with a focus on sport management.
