Cal Men’s Gymnastics Qualifies For NCAA Championships
No. 8 Bears To Finish 2026 Season Next Weekend In Champaign, Illinois
For the 27th consecutive year, the California men's gymnastics team has been selected to compete at the NCAA Championships in Champaign, Illinois, as announced by the NCAA Tuesday. The Golden Bears will compete in Session 1 of the qualifying rounds on April 17, which will take place at 11 a.m. PT/1 p.m. CT at the State Farm Center and will also feature Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State, Greenville and Springfield. The NCAA Final will be held the following day at 4 p.m. PT/6 p.m. CT.
Both the April 17 qualifying sessions will be broadcast on ESPN+, while the April 18 final will air on ESPN2.
"I'm extremely proud of this team and what they've been able to accomplish," head coach
Bryan Del Castillo said. "We worked hard to increase our start value this year and it's now paying off – we earned the fifth-highest score at a conference championship amongst all teams in the country and still have room for improvement. Our plan is to build off this success and qualifies as a team to the NCAA Finals."
Cal, which posted a season-best score of 317.750 at last week's MPSF Championship and bears a national qualifying average (NQA) of 314.913, will need to place among the top-three teams in its qualifying session to advance. Individuals can qualify by placing among the top three of those who have not pre-qualified with their teams.
Last year, Cal was the only squad in either preliminary session to hit all its routines but barely missed out on advancing as a team, instead qualifying seven individuals to the finals. The Bears' 2025 qualifying session score of 319.091 still stands as the modern program record.
