Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb

Opening Statement:

“It's fun to be 4-0. I thought this was a great home crowd today and I'm really proud of our players because in this two-game homestand there was a lot of growth. They are fun to coach because they are so young. They are like sponges and pretty much listen to what I have to say and always try to keep getting better. The potential of this squad is limitless. Cal Poly is really scrappy and at times that can be hard to play against, but today we showed that we have the potential to be a very complete basketball team because we went down to Louisville and really dominated them inside with Kristine and Courtney doing a brunt of the scoring and then we come home and score 24 threes in two days. Obviously, 14 threes today was exciting, but I just want our team to embrace the players that we have and the style that we have and trust us and trust each other and we will do great things. Today was a good sign of that. I don't know if we have ever hit 14 threes before and I don't think we have and so it's fun to win in a way that people wouldn't expect us to.”

On the team win:

“It's good that we got everyone involved. We spread the minutes around. We spread the point production. I just want everyone confident and ready to go and figure out a way to win, but I did look at them at one point and say, 'Come on guys. It's time to put this one away.' For them to be able to respond in timeouts like that, it is crucial because we will need that over the course of the season. The ability of the group to take the messaging and go do it out on the court was really positive.”

On the young team:

“You forget sometimes that they are only freshmen and sophomores because they are so good. I'm askingthe sophomores to act like seniors. I put a lot on their plate, but when they take those steps forward it is very gratifying. ”

Sophomore Forward Mikayla Cowling

On today's game:

“Every game, you have to be locked in. I know in previous games Asha (Thomas) has hit a lot of threes, along with Gabby (Green), Courtney (Range), so it was their time, and we gave them the ball because they were hot. Today, I just happened to be hot. It was nice to get the ball and knock down some threes, but I think everyone contributed tonight and it was a great team effort.”

On being a facilitator:

“I just know that I have a role on this team, I have to do the 'dirty work' stuff and be there for my teammates. Every night, I come out and play hard, and what happens, happens. I try to make my team better, and it's showing with how we're playing.”

Freshman Guard Asha Thomas

On if she expected to start right away after sitting out last season with ACL injury:

“Not at all. I just knew I was taking a big role, and it's happening the way it is right now, and I'm going with it. I'm going with my team and my coaches, trying to do the job they ask me to do.”
