Box Score
BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball team (6-6, 2-2) evened its overall record to 6-6 and won its second Pacific-10 Conference match of the year with a 3-0 victory (15-3, 15-12, 15-11) over Oregon (6-8, 0-6) Friday evening at the Recreational Sports Facility on the Cal campus.
"We were a better team than Oregon, and like the Santa Clara match, the outcome wasn't really in doubt even though some of the games were close," said Cal coach Rich Feller. "The only downfall was that we didn't serve and pass as well as we have been. We also took our team out of its comfort zone tonight by making more substitutions than we usually do. We wanted to get some playing time for some different players."
Sophomore Candace McNamee led the Bears with a career-high 11 kills with no errors in 12 attempts for a phenomenal .917 hitting percentage. McNamee is Cal's starting setter, but the Bears are utilizing a 6-2 offense which plays two setters (McNamee and freshman setter Caity Noonan). Cal's senior outside hitter Brook Coulter added 10 kills and a team-high 13 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Monique Tobbagi led Oregon with eight kills. As a team, the Bears outhit the Ducks, .336 to .120.
Cal will next face Oregon State, Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Cal's RSF.
