Box Score
BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball team (7-6, 3-2) improved to 7-6 and won its third Pacific-10 Conference match of the year with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory (5-15, 11-15, 16-14, 15-9, 15-10) over Oregon State (7-7, 1-5) Saturday evening at the Recreational Sports Facility on the Cal campus. In 1999, the Bears have already equaled the number of overall and conference wins from the 1998 season when they went 7-22 and 3-15.
"It was a situation where just played bad in the first two games, both individually and as a team," said Cal coach Rich Feller. "Then we started playing a little better in the third game and got confidence. It was just a matter of getting us to play as a team. We knew that we were going to need an outstanding effort from everyone and it started happening."
The Bears were led by 18 kills from junior outside hitter Alicia Perry, 14 kills by sophomore Candace McNamee and 13 kills by senior outside hitter Brook Coulter. Coulter also led Cal with 21 digs. Oregon State's top hitter was junior middle blocker Angie Shirley with 20 kills.
Cal will next travel to Los Angeles to face UCLA, Friday, Oct. 8 and USC, Saturday, Oct. 9. The Cal-UCLA match will begin at 7 p.m. and the Bears-Trojans match will start at 6 p.m.
