Bears Fall to No. 7 USC, 2-1 in Double Overtime

Oct. 22, 1999

BERKELEY - USC's Isabelle Harvey scored on a scramble in front of the goal in double overtime to lift the seventh-ranked Trojans to a 2-1 victory over California today at Edwards Stadium.

The Trojans (12-3-0, 5-0-0 Pac-10) got the winning assist from Kim Clark, who also scored the game's first goal just 1:41 into the contest when she curled in a corner kick. USC's win drops Cal (10-5-1, 3-2-0) two games back in the Pac-10 standings with four games to go for each team.

The Bears tied the game in the 29th minute when Regina Holan converted on a flying header off a free kick from Tami Pivnick. It was Holan's fourth goal in the last two games and her fifth of the season.

"We played extremely well for most of the game today, but USC is a very good team, and we just made those couple little mistakes that they scored their goals on," Cal coach Kevin Boyd said.

The loss snapped an eight-game overtime unbeaten streak for Cal, which had not lost an OT contest since September 1997.

Cal stays at home to face No. 15 UCLA on Sunday at 1 p.m.
