Seniors Come Up Big In Win Over Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Seniors Stephanie Strocco and Amy Balavac scored second-half goals to lead Cal over Oregon State 2-0 in the Pac-10 opener for both teams at Lorenz Field.

Strocco scored her third goal of the season in the 51st minute when she banged in a pass from fellow senior Stacey Mallison. Balavac added the insurance goal 14 minutes later, converting her first goal of the season from short range on a pass from freshman Laura Schott.

Cal (8-3-1, 1-0-0 Pac-10) dominated play, outshooting Oregon State (7-4-1, 0-1-0 Pac-10) 17-6, including 12-2 in the second half.

Junior goalkeeper Maite Zabala made four saves to post her 15th career shutout. Zabala now stands alone in third place on Cal's career shutout list with 15.

The Bears finish their Northwest trip Sunday when the play Oregon (4-7-0, 0-1-0 Pac-10) at Pape Field in Eugene at 1 p.m.
