BERKELEY - Freshman Laura Schott scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the California women's soccer team to a 6-2 victory over Washington State Friday at Edwards Stadium.
With the win, the Bears improved to 12-6-1 overall and 5-3 in the Pac-10, while WSU fell to 7-11 and 1-7.
Cal jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on a pair of penalty kicks. Tami Pivnick gave the Bears their first goal at the 8:34 mark, and Regina Holan added another at 35:03.
In the second half, Stacey Mallison scored off a pass from Shott at 60:53 to make it 3-0, but WSU's Brianne Carmody responded with a goal just 14 seconds later.
Cal put the game away with three goals in a five-minute span. Schott scored from four yards out, Brina Kabler headed the ball in off a corner kick, Schott completed the run with her second goal at 68:18. WSU's Christina Pallan scored off a breakaway with under five minutes left to make it 6-2.
Cal wraps up the regular season Sunday when the Bears host Washington at 12 noon.
