MALIBU, Calif. - Junior transfer Regina Holan's first goal as a Golden Bear preserved the Cal women's soccer team's four-game unbeaten streak Friday in a 2-2 tie with Pepperdine.
Holan, who came to the Bears from the University of Portland, tallied an unassisted goal in the 60th minute to tie the game for the second time. The Bears (3-1-1) had earlier fallen behind 1-0 before freshman Laura Schott scored her fourth goal of the season to knot the game 1-1.
Pepperdine (1-1-1) got all its scoring from a pair of sisters, Stacia and Tasha Spangler.
The game snapped a six-game overtime winning streak for the Bears, who are ranked No. 9 in the coaches and Soccer America polls and No. 13 by Soccer Buzz. However, Cal's unbeaten streak in OT games now stands at eight, dating back to September 1997.
Junior goalkeeper Maite Zabala recorded eight saves against the Waves to move past Jennifer Netherwood into third place on Cal's all-time saves list with 149 for her career. She needs just seven more to tie Mary Harvey for second place all-time.
The Bears stay in Southern California to play Loyola Marymout at noon Sunday in Los Angeles.
