Men's Soccer Blanks William & Mary, 1-0

NORFOLK, Va. - The California men's soccer team knocked off William & Mary, 1-0, Sunday to claim the Old Dominion Stihl Soccer Classic. Ramiro Arredondo scored a goal in the 26th minute to lead the Golden Bears over the Tribe.

With the win, Cal improves to 3-0-1 on the season, while William & Mary drops to 1-2-1. Arredondo's goal came off a deflection by the William & Mary defense in front of hte goal.

Both teams battled hard throughout the game, with William & Mary holding a slight advantage in shots, 11-7, and corner kicks, 4-3. However, the Tribe was unable to find the back of the net as Cal goalkeeper Doug Brooks recorded his third shutout of the young season, earning tournament MVP honors.

With the win, Cal was assured a share of the tournament title after previously knocking off Old Dominion, 2-1, on Friday night. However, Old Dominion defeated Virginia Tech, 2-0, in the final game of the tournament, giving the title to the Bears.

Jason Thorpe, Ramiro Arredondo and Derrick Dyslin earned all-tournament honors for Cal.

The Bears return home to face Loyola Marymount Friday, Sept. 17, at 4 p.m., at Goldman Field.
