Cal Volleyball Tops Wisconsin Green Bay

BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball team (3-2) won its third match in a row with a 3-0 (15-1, 15-1, 15-4) victory over Wisconsin Green Bay (2-7) Sunday afternoon at the Recreational Sports Facility on the Cal campus.

The Bears, who after losing their first two matches of the season to No. 4 ranked Hawaii and at No. 19 ranked Colorado, have now recorded consecutive victories over Denver, Eastern Washington and Wisconsin Green Bay. Cal was never threatened by the Phoenix, as the Bears had a team hitting percentage of .406, compared to a .065 hitting percentage for Wisconsin Green Bay.

Cal was led by senior outside hitter Brook Coulter, who had a team-leading 10 kills and senior middle blocker Kellie Alva had eight kills and only one error in nine attempts for a .778 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Caity Noonan came off the bench to record a season-high 12 assists and led the Bears with seven digs.

Brenda Krauss led Wisconsin Green Bay with six kills, and Natalie Noonan and Angela Sobocinski recorded four digs apiece for the Phoenix.

Cal will next open Pac-10 play when it travels to Washington, Friday, Sept. 17 and to Washington State, Saturday, Sept. 18.
