Iowa Edges Cal in Field Hockey, 3-2

STANFORD - Maria Meriuzzi's goal with 1:05 left in the game broke a 2-2 tie, lifting the Iowa field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Cal Monday afternoon.

Cal (4-2) took a 1-0 lead early in the first half when Megan Sainsbury scored her ninth goal of the season off assists by Annika Kuefer and Kelli Mirassou. However, the Hawkeyes quickly tied the score on Quan Nim's goal just over a minute later.

The Bears regained the advantage going into halftime when Amber Stockstill scored, with assists by Sainsbury and Lieke Zoete. After intermission, Iowa made it 2-2 when Tiffany Leister scored at the 25:55 mark. The score remained that way until Meriuzzi's goal.

Cal returns to action Saturday when the Bears play at Pacific in a NorPac Conference match.
