Sept. 8, 1999
Box Score
BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball team (2-2) won its first home match of the 1999 season and its second match overall with a 3-0 (15-13, 15-5, 15-9) victory over Eastern Washington (3-2) Wednesday night at the Recreational Sports Facility on the Cal campus.
"Our offense was very good tonight, and our blocking is getting better," said first year head coach Rich Feller. "Our defensive pursuit in the first game set the tone for the match. I was very pleased with how tough we played Eastern Washington, considering that they were an experienced team. "
The Bears pretty much dominated the match with the exception of the first game when Cal let a 12-3 lead evaporate into a 13-13 tie. But, the Bears were able to regroup to score the next two points for the 15-13 win. The closest Eastern Washington was able to get was 6-4 in game two and 11-8 in game three.
Cal was led by junior outside hitter Alicia Perry, who had a team-leading 18 kills with six errors in 38 attempts for a .316 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Caity Noonan led the Bears with 12 digs and senior Brook Coulter and Perry added 11 digs apiece.
The Bears will next host Wisconsin Green Bay, Sunday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Recreational Sports Facility in Berkeley .
