Junior midfielder Luke Serafin netted the game-winning goal with 50 seconds left to rally Seton Hall to a 2-1 win over the University of California at the Stanford/Nike Invitational at New Maloney Field.
California (2-7) led 1-0 at halftime after senior forward Kendall Simmons headed in a corner kick by Ramiro Arredondo at 19:26.
Seton Hall (5-5) tied the game at 70:10 when senior midfielder Arda Altincatal took a pass over the middle from junior forward Greg Strohmann and beat Bear keeper Brian Walker to the right side.
California had an opportunity to regain the lead, but a shot by Juan Luis Romero hit the left post in the 84th minute.
The Pirates claimed their first lead when Altincatal fed Serafin for the game-winning goal at 89:10.
The Bears were outshot 14-11 in the match, and Walker had five saves for Cal.
Ramiro Arredondo and Chris Roner were chosen to the all-tournament team.
The Bears return to action on Friday, October 6 when they travel to Oregon to take on the Oregon State Ducks. Sunday, the Bears take on the Washington Huskies.
