Berkeley, Calif - The California men's soccer team snapped its seven-game winless streak with a, 1-0, win over the No. 7 UCLA Bruins. With the win, the Bears improve to 3-9-1 overall, 1-2-1 in the Pac-10. The loss drops the Bruins to 9-3-0, 1-3.

With just five minutes remaining in the match, junior Austin Ripmaster took a pass from junior Chris Roner. Ripmaster shot from 12-yards out to the far post, past a diving Bruin keeper DJ Countess, for the Bears' first goal in nearly three full games.

"We have not played a home match in a long time," said head coach Kevin Grimes. "We needed this badly after dealing through adversity all season. The guys played hard for 90 minutes and it paid off. This is a big win for us."

Cal had multiple chances in the match to put a score on the board, but just missed each time. Ramiro Arredondo took a point-blank shot from five-yards out, 43-minutes into the match, only for the shot to hit the top crossbar and bounce away. Arredondo had another opportunity with eight minutes remaining in the match, when he took a cross, and headed the ball towards the goal. Countess made a save on that play.

The Bruins out shot the Bears by a 12-9 margin, with Bruin Cliff McKinley taking four of the Bruins shots. The Bears were led by Arredondo and Ripmaster with three shots apiece.

Freshman Brian Walker recorded five saves for the Bears, to earn his second win and second shutout on the season.

Cal hits the road one more time, Sunday, when they take on the Saint Mary's Gaels, in Moraga, at 2 p.m.
