Men's Soccer Defeats Saint Mary's Gaels, 1-0

Moraga, Calif. - The California Golden Bears (4-9-1, 1-2-1) defeated the Saint Mary's men's soccer team (5-10, 0-2 WCC) by the by a final score of 1-0. Robbie Aylesworth scored the game-winner for the Bears at the 81:27 mark off an assist from Ramiro Arredondo.

The wind was a factor today, as each team took turns battling the fierce North gusts. Cal outshot Saint Mary's 14 to three in the first half, as Gael keeper Kellan Wilson (Park City, UT) struggled to kick the ball to the midfield against the wind. Wilson played well nevertheless, tallying nine saves and preventing a Cal score in the first half.

The shooting evened out in the second half, as the Gaels outshot Cal seven to six, but a red card to Evan Fontaine in the 60th minute forced the Gaels to play a man down the rest of the half. Cal's Kendall Simmonds broke through the defense shortly thereafter, but Wilson snagged the ball to maintain the 0-0 tie. The score would remain tied until Aylesworth found the net in the 82nd minute to put the Bears ahead for good.
