California men's soccer was defeated by the 12th-ranked Washington men's soccer team, 7-0, in Pac-10 action in front of 1,708 fans at Husky Soccer Field.
The Huskies, who recorded their fourth shutout of the season, improve to
8-3-0 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-10. California drops to 2-8-1, 0-1-1.
The teams played a close first half, with Washington taking a 1-0 lead at
the break. Senior Kai Carroll put the Huskies on the board when he converted
a penalty kick at 36:04. UW had 10 shots to Cal's three in the first period.
The Huskies unloaded in the second half, first when senior Mark Hogenhout
had an unassisted goal at 48:41. Oyetuga scored the next two for the
Huskies, his second and third goals this season. He took a pass from Foisie
to put the first one in at 67:29 and followed quickly with the second when
Jake Sagare sent a pass from the right side that hit the cross bar allowing
Oyetuga to knock the ball in at 74:53.
The Huskies completed the scoring flurry in the final thee minutes of the
game. Foisie had back-to-back scores ? at 87:55 and 88:15 ? the first an
unassisted shot from 12 yards out on the left side and the second a low shot
from the right corner with an assist from Trevor Frobose. Team captain Mike
Casale set up the final goal, sending a cross to Frobose, who headed it in
the net at 89:23.
The Huskies finished with 30 shots while Cal tallied six for the game.
The Bears next travel to Stanford, CA., to take on the Cardinal, next Sunday, October 15, at 2 pm.
