Box Score
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Third baseman Candace Harper singled home pinch runner Kristi Robles in the bottom of the sixth inning and sophomore pitcher Jocelyn Forest tossed a two-hitter, leading 12th-ranked Cal to a 1-0 victory over Florida State in the championship game of the Seminole Classic Sunday.
The Bears, now a perfect 8-0 on the year, captured their second tournament title after winning San Jose State's Early Bird Tournament last weekend.
Cal began its rally in the sixth when first baseman Veronica Nelson singled. After Robles replaced her as a runner, she advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Harper then followed with a single to center field to produce the game's only run.
Forest improved to 5-0 on the year with her fourth complete-game shutout of the season, striking out seven. She has yet to allow a run in 29.1 innings of work this season.
The Bears reached the championship game by defeating Florida A&M, 14-0, in the semifinals. Cal tallied 12 runs in the third inning, and sophomore Nicole DiSalvio pitched a four-hitter to improve to 2-0.
Amber Phillips led the way with three hits, while Harper, Lisa Iancin, Veronica Nelson and Eryn Manahan had two hits each. Nelson socked her third home run of the year for the Bears.
Cal returns to action this weekend when the Bears travel to Las Vegas for the UNLV Softball Classic.
