LAS VEGAS - Cal's 12th-ranked softball team remained undefeated on the season, beating Loyola Marymount, 5-0, and No. 23 Central Michigan, 9-1, on the first day of the UNLV Softball Classic.

The Bears, now 10-0, are just two wins shy of their best start ever. They were 12-0 to begin both the 1981 and '82 seasons.

In the opener, Cal scored twice in the top of the sixth inning and three more times in the top of the seventh to beat LMU. Senior second baseman Lisa Iancin provided the key blow with a two-run homer in the seventh.

Sophomore pitcher Jocelyn Forest, who relieved starter Nicole DiSalvio in the fifth, picked up the win.

In the second game, freshman Mikella Pedretti hit her first home run, a three-run shot, in the second inning to start the rout. Forest improved to 7-0 on the year by tossing a five-hitter.

The Bears continue action in the tournament against Virginia and Portland State Friday.
