No. 12 Softball Off to Best Start Ever

LAS VEGAS - Cal's 12th-ranked softball team defeated UNLV, 9-3, on the final day of the UNLV Softball Classic Sunday to improve to 13-0 on the season - the fastest start in school history.

The Bears broke the previous record of 12-0 set in both the 1981 and '82 seasons. Cal completed the UNLV tournament with a 5-0 mark, also beating Loyola Marymount, Central Michigan, Portland State and Virginia along the way.

Against UNLV, freshman first baseman Veronica Nelson went 4-for-5 with five RBI to key the offensive attack. Freshman Mikella Pedretti hit her second home run of the tournament, and sophomore Jocelyn Forest upped her record to 8-0 with a complete-game six-hitter.

Cal returns to action when the Bears visit St. Mary's for a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader.
