SACRAMENTO - Cal's fifth-ranked softball team defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-2, but lost to Wisconsin, 2-1 in eight innings, on the second day of the Capital Classic Friday.

After the completion of today's action in the 15-team tournament, the teams will be seeded, and championship bracket play will begin Saturday morning.

Against TAMU-CC, Cal (30-4) scored twice in the first inning and once more in the second. Second baseman Lisa Iancin batted 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while shortstop Eryn Manahan also had an RBI single.

Freshman Jennifer Deering pitched the distance to improve to 8-0 on the year. She allowed just four hits and struck out eight.

In the Wisconsin game, Cal took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single from first baseman Veronica Nelson. The Badgers tied it in the fourth inning when Anna Jones homered.

The game remained that way until the eighth inning. With the international tie-breaker rule in effect, Wisconsin loaded the bases on an error and an intentional walk. Cal pitcher Nicole DiSalvio then walked Kerry Hagen on a 3-1 pitch to force in the winning run.
