LOS ANGELES - The California men's track and field team won the closely contested UCLA Triangular with 144.5 points to Washington's 142 points and UCLA's 123.5 Saturday. UCLA won the women's competition with 170 points, while Washington was second with 107.5 points and Cal third with 104.5 points.

Both Cal teams turned in many outstanding performances in their first scoring meet of the season. The Cal men took first in five events, while the women grabbed top honors in three events. Sophomore transfer Tim Bogdanof has emerged as Cal's top 110-meter hurdler early in the season, finishing first today with a Pac-10 qualifying time of 14.12. Freshman Robert Kennedy won the long jump competition with a mark of 24-11.25, surpassing Cal's best mark of a year ago in that event by more than a foot. Senior Patrick Leonard placed first in the high jump with a mark of 6-10.75, and sophomore Jerriod Mack won the triple jump with a personal-best wind-aided jump of 51-5.5. The Bears also won the 4x100m relay (40.60). Also of note for the Cal men, senior Bevan Hart posted a career-best 17-4.5 in the pole vault, finishing third.

Cal freshman Leora Ward broke teammate Maria Lopez's school record in the pole vault (11-11.25), finishing fourth with a vault of 11-11.75. First-place finishes for the Cal women included Zhauntel Holman in the 100 meters (11.91), sophomore Erin Belger in the 800 meters (2:12.77) and junior Reynda King in the triple jump (40-9.5). King also finished third in the triple jump, recording a PR of 19-2.75. The Bears showed the most overall improvement in the high jump with sophomore Laura Dudugjian finishing third with a PR of 5-9.25 and junior Tiffany Barnett taking fourth with a PR of 5-8. Also of note, junior Dana Lawson set a PR for the second-consecutive week in the discus (156-7) and hammer (159-6), finishing third and fifth, respectively.

Cal next travels to the Stanford Invitational, March 25-26.
