Oregon Upsets No. 8 Cal Softball, 3-2
April 14, 2000
Box Score
Jill Robinson hit a solo homer and Lindsey Welch added a two-run shot to power the 23rd-ranked Oregon softball team to a 3-2 victory over No. 8 California Friday at Levine-Fricke Field.
With the win, Oregon improved to 27-17 overall and 2-6 in the Pac-10, while Cal fell to 39-12 and 3-6.
After retiring the first five batters of the game, Cal starter Nicole DiSalvio surrendered the home run to Robinson, who hit the ball well over the left field fence.
In the fourth inning, Alyssa Laux beat out an infield single and Welch followed with her homer to right. Jocelyn Forest replaced DiSalvio at that point, and she allowed just two hits and struck out six in her 3 1/3 innings of relief.
The Bears rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning, loading the bases on a walk and two singles. Left fielder Pauline Duenas then slapped a two-run single to center, but that would be all Cal would get.
Oregon's Connie McMurren went the distance, striking out five, to up her record to 11-12.
Cal returns to action Saturday when the Bears host No. 14 Oregon State at 2 p.m.
