Box Score

Pitcher Tarrah Beyster scattered nine hits and went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate to lead the 14th-ranked Oregon State softball team to a 5-2 victory over No. 8 California Saturday on Levine-Fricke Field.

With the win, OSU improved to 30-13-1 overall and 2-7 in the Pac-10, while Cal dropped to 39-13 and 3-7. The same two teams will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. to conclude the two-game series.

The Beavers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning without the benefit of a base hit. Shawna Feldt led off with a walk and advanced to third when Cal pitcher Jocelyn Forest misfired to first on Brynnen Guthrie's sacrifice bunt attempt. Feldt then scored on a sacrifice fly by Shelly Prochaska.

The Bears tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning on a walk to Lisa Iancin and a double by freshman shortstop Eryn Manahan.

In the third inning, OSU capitalized on two more Cal errors to push its lead to 3-1. The Bears made it 3-2 in the fourth on an RBI single by freshman catcher Courtney Scott, who drove home Candace Harper from third base.

The Beavers essentially put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh, stringing together four hits to produce two runs for a 5-2 lead.
