Oregon State Blanks Cal, 4-0, in Softball
April 16, 2000
Box Score
BERKELEY -
Pitcher Cheryl Draper tossed a two-hitter and Shelly Prochaska went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to lead the 14th-ranked Oregon State softball team to a 4-0 victory over No. 8 California Sunday on Levine-Fricke Field.
With the win, OSU improved 31-13-1 overall and 3-7 in the Pac-10, while Cal fell to 39-14 and 3-8.
The Beavers broke on top in the first inning. After loading the bases on a walk and two singles, Jenni Jodoin delivered another single to produce a 1-0 OSU lead.
The score remained that way until the sixth. With two out, Jodoin lifted a fly ball to left field, but Pauline Duenas dropped it for a two-base error. Steph Adams followed with a single to give the Beavers a 2-0 advantage.
OSU completed its scoring in the seventh, keyed by a two-run double off the bat of Prochaska. Prochaska's hit seemed to be heading for a groundout that would have ended the inning, but it took a bad hop and bounced off the forehead of Cal shortstop Eryn Manahan into left field.
The Bears got a runner to at least second base in four of the seven innings, but Cal batters went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Cal returns to action on Wednesday when the Bears visit Santa Clara in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
