Box Score

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Golden Bears of California swept both games of the doubleheader against the Broncos this evening with scores of 3-1 and 6-4.

The first game of the doubleheader remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Bears scored three runs, the first off a single by center fielder Paige Bowie and the next two off a double by shortstop Eryn Manahan. The Broncos did not score until the bottom of the sixth off a single by senior Angela Rotstein. The one run wasn't enough to capture the game and the Bears took the victory. Winning pitcher for the Bears was Jennifer Deerling who was replaced in the fourth inning by Nicole DiSalvio. Deanna Rodriguez was tagged with the loss, her record falls to 3-16.

In the nightcap the Bears started out what became a two inning scoring rally, knocking in one runner off a sacrifice hit by Kristen Morley. The Broncos answered back with two runs of their own, the first off a hit by Rodriguez and the second off a single by junior Melanie Barker. The Bears held on in the second inning, tying the game with a run scored off a double by Mikella Pedretti. In the bottom of the second, the Broncos took back their lead, scoring two more runs, one off a single by Sydney Wiginton and the other off an error by the Bears second baseman. The score remained 4-2 until the Bears scored one run in the top of the fifth inning and another in the top of the sixth, both off sacrifice fly balls, to tie up the game again. The Bears made their final appearance at the plate in the top of the seventh to scored two runs off a double by Candace Harper. The Broncos could not rally back and fell to the Golden Bears, 6-4. DiSalvio relieved Deerling in the bottom of the first inning to earn the win. Barry took the defeat, her record is now 5-14.
