Stanford Drops No. 9 Cal Softball, 2-0
April 22, 2000
Box Score
STANFORD -
Jessica Mendoza led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to start a two-run rally, leading the 12th-ranked Stanford softball team to a 2-0 victory over No. 9 California Saturday afternoon.
Stanford, which won the season series with the Bears two games to one, improved to 36-12 overall and 4-8 in the Pac-10. Cal fell to 41-15 and 3-9.
Cal starter Jocelyn Forest surrendered just one single through the first three innings, but Mendoza broke a scoreless tie with a blast over the right field fence. Stanford then loaded the bases on a walk and two singles. At that point, Nicole DiSalvio relieved Forest, but the first batter she faced - Jenni Shideler - delivered an RBI single between short and third for a 2-0 Cardinal lead.
The Bears threatened to score by putting two runners on base in four of the first five innings. But in each instance, Cal was unable to come up with the key hit.
The Bears remain on the road next weekend when they visit No. 1 Washington Friday and No. 3 UCLA Saturday and Sunday.
