April 28, 2000

SEATTLE - Jaime Clark belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and both teams scored in the fourth as the No. 1 Huskies downed ninth-ranked California, 3-1, on a wet, windy Friday at Husky Softball Stadium before 576 fans. With the win, UW took two of three from the Bears and improved to 48-5 and 10-2 on the season. Cal drops to 41-16 and 3-10. The Huskies host No. 11 Stanford tomorrow and Sunday.

Clark's blast over the center field wall was her second at home and 17th of the season, and it brought home Rosie Leutzinger, who had reached second on an error.

The Bears used two singles and a double in the fourth inning by Candace Harper, Lisa Iancin and Veronica Nelson to push their run across. The Dawgs answered when Kim DePaul walked and Melissa Downs doubled to the right center wall.

Jamie Graves struck out five in the game for the win, improving to 21-3, while Cal's Jocelyn Forest (18-9) took the loss.
