LOS ANGELES - It was an exceptional day for UCLA at Easton Stadium on Saturday, starting with the retirement of Bruin head coach Sue Enquist's #6 UCLA jersey, and finishing with a six-inning 8-0 win for the third-ranked UCLA Bruins over visiting No. 9 California. With the win, UCLA improves to 34-8-1 (9-4 Pac-10), while Cal falls to 41-17, 3-11 Pac-10.

The Golden Bears touched up Swenson for hits in the second, third and fifth innings, with their most promising scoring chance coming in the fourth inning. Left fielder Pauline Duenas reached on an error by Bruin first baseman Tairia Mims, stole second and advanced to third on UCLA's second error of the inning, placing Duenas on third and Paige Bowie on first with two out. Cal catcher Courtney Scott then struck out to end the inning.

The Bruin offense got rolling in the fourth inning, with a leadoff single from Julie Adams, followed by singles from Julie Marshall, Lyndsey Klein and a two-RBI single by Courtney Dale. With Klein on third and Dale on second, Mims stepped to the plate, hitting a sacrifice fly to deep right field that was dropped by Cal's Paige Bowie.

Mims and Dale were later hit home by Bruin centerfielder Amanda Freed on an RBI single off of Golden Bear reliever Jennifer Deering. Shortstop Natasha Watley came to the plate as UCLA's ninth batter of the inning and grounded to Cal third baseman Candace Harper to end the inning.

UCLA posted more offense in the fifth inning, with Adams hitting her fifth home run of the season to straightaway centerfield before Klein tripled off of the fence in right centerfield and was wild pitched home by Deering. The game-ending run was scored in the sixth inning by Toria Auelua on an RBI double by Watley.

Bruin pitcher Stephanie Swenson improved to 10-0 on the year with today's win, allowing just three hits over five innings of work. Courtney Dale tossed a perfect sixth inning before UCLA ended the game in the bottom half of the frame. Cal's Nicole DiSalvio (14-8) took the loss, giving up six hits and five runs in three-plus innings.

The Bruins and Golden Bears face off again on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. first pitch at Easton Stadium.
