LOS ANGELES -- The third-ranked UCLA softball team completed a regular-season series sweep of California on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium, defeating the Golden Bears 5-0. With the win, the Bruins keep pace with Arizona for second place in the Pac-10 standings, and hold records of 35-8-1, 10-4 Pac-10. California falls to 41-18, 3-12 Pac-10 with the loss.

UCLA's offense started hot, with consecutive singles by Amanda Freed, Natasha Watley and Julie Adams to open the game. Freed was caught stealing, but second baseman Lyndsey Klein singled home Watley before Courtney Dale stepped to the plate and launched an impressive home run, her fourth of the year, over the left field fence to complete the four-run first inning.

In the bottom of the third, Julie Marshall added the fifth and final run of the game, hitting a solo home run to straightaway centerfield to lead off the inning. The Bruins scattered four more hits through the remainder of the game, but were unable to bring more runs across the plate.

UCLA starting pitcher Freed pitched the first five innings, and scattered four hits. No Golden Bear runners were able to reach second base on the day. Courtney Dale, who is continuing her rehab of a shoulder injury, pitched the final two innings on the day.
