BERKELEY - Sophomore Jocelyn Forest tossed a two-hitter and freshman shortstop Eryn Manahan slugged a pair of home runs to lead the 19th-ranked Cal softball team to a 4-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Sacramento State Wednesday. In the opener, Sac State emerged with a 2-1 win.

In the second game, the Bears (42-19) broke on top with three runs in the first inning. Manahan led off with a homer to right center. With two outs, Veronica Nelson singled and Lisa Iancin doubled to put runners on second and third. Pauline Duenas then hit a grounder that bounced away from second baseman Lori Meixner, allowing two runs to score.

Cal padded its lead in the sixth inning on Manahan's sixth home run of the season, this one clearing the left field fence.

Forest, who improved her record to 19-10, struck out seven and did not walk a batter along the way.

In the opener, Sac State (23-26) scored twice off Cal starter Nicole DiSalvio in the fifth inning. Meixner hit a two-out double to score Meghan Cunningham, who had singled. Cathy Coupar followed with another RBI double for a 2-0 lead.

Cal tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Paige Bowie singled and scored on a double by Mikella Pedretti. But Sac State pitcher Amy Barker ended the game by inducing a pair of groundouts.
