Box Score

Eugene, Ore. - Andrea Vidlund tossed her 14th complete game of the season for Oregon, but the 16th- ranked Ducks couldn't overcome three first inning runs by No. 9 California and fell to the Golden Bears, 4-0 Saturday at Howe Field. Oregon's sixth-straight loss drops them to 33-24 overall on the season, 5-12 in the Pac-10. Cal's third consecutive win moves them to 44-19, 5-12.

Cal got things going early, getting three consecutive singles to load the bases for Veronica Nelson with nobody out in the top of the first inning. Nelson came through as she got an RBI-groundout to second base to give the Bears a quick, 1-0 lead. After a Lisa Iancin line out gave the Ducks another out, Pauline Duenas singled to right center and drove in Candace Harper from third base and Kristen Morley from second to give Cal a 3-0 advantage. Vidlund got the next hitter to ground out to second to end the inning.

The Ducks had things going in the bottom of the first as well, putting their first two runners on with nobody out. But after Missy Coe advanced Andrea Gustafson to third base with a long flyout to center, Jill Robinson lined out to center and Vidlund popped up to the catcher to strand the runners.

The only other scoring of the game came in the top of the sixth inning, when Morley led off the frame with a bloop double to left center that both outfielders overran. After Harper laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Morley to third, Nelson drove in her second run of the day on a sacrifice fly to right field that gave Cal a 4-0 lead.

That was all the cushion that Bear starter Jocelyn Forest (20-10) would need, as she allowed the Ducks just four hits on the afternoon and struck out eight. Vidlund was the loser for Oregon and fell to 16-7.

The Ducks have scored just four runs in their last six games and lost each of them. Cal has won three-straight for the first time since March 25.

Cal is next in action Sunday when they finish their series with Oregon at 1:00 p.m. at Howe Field.
