Men's Soccer Drops Third Straight, 1-0

Northridge, CA - California men's soccer was defeated for the third straight match, Friday, at Northridge, CA., 1-0. The outcome was also the third straight time the Bears were shut out, after losing to No. 9 Saint Louis, 3-0, and Louisville, 3-0, last past weekend in the Saint Louis/Nike Classic.

The Cal State Northridge Matadors scored their only goal in the game in the third minute by Tony Ortega with an assist by Brain Esparza.

The Bears managed 14 shots in the game, their second highest shot total of the season, after a 15 shot performance in their season opener against UC Santa Cruz. Freshman midfielder Devin Kato led all Bears with three shots, followed by two shots apiece by Jason Thorpe, Kendall Simmonds, Chris Roner and Justin Monnier.

The Matadors committed nine fouls compared to the Bears seven.

The Bears fall to 1-3 on the season while the Matadors snap their two-game losing streak and improve to 3-2. Cal returns home this Sunday as they host the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at Edwards Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
