Softball Takes Game 1, 1-0

BERKELEY, Calif - The California softball team took both ends of a doubleheader against the UC Riverside Highlanders, 1-0 and 9-1. With the wins, the Bears improve to 2-0 on the young 2001 season, while the Highlanders fall to 2-7-1 on the year.
In the first game, junior pitcher Jocelyn Forest paced Cal in the circle, throwing her first no-hitter on the year.
Offensively, the Bears put their lone run on the board in the first. With two outs, senior Paige Bowie singled to left. Sophomore Veronica Nelson drew a walk, moving Bowie to second. Junior Candace Harper singled to left to bring in Bowie to put Cal up for good, 1-0.
Both Bowie and Harper had two hits for the Bears, including doubles apiece.
Forest, along with tossing a no-hitter, added 10 strikeouts, while also adding a hit on the offensive side.
