SEATTLE -

The game between the No. 4 California Golden Bears and the No. 13 Washington Huskies was supposed to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, but with continued rain and stormy conditions, the first pitch was not thrown until 4:35 p.m. The last out was then not completed until 3:50 p.m. on Monday afternoon, with the No. 4 California Golden Bears defeating the No. 13 Washington Huskies, 6-3. The Bears improve to 48-10 overall and 5-9 in the Pac-10, while the Huskies fall to 33-18 overall, 7-7 in conference.

Washington got on the board first, scoring two runs on three hits in the first inning.

Cal began to chip away and then finally overtook the Husky lead in the third. Sophomore Mikella Pedretti started it all off with a single through the left side of the infield and later moved to second on a sophomore Jen Deering sacrifice bunt. Pedretti then moved to third on a ground out to shortstop. With two outs, senior Paige Bowie lined a single to left to bring in Pedretti from third for the Bears first run of the game.

Senior Pauline Due?as followed with another single and junior Candace Harper was hit by a pitch to load up the bases, bringing sophomore Veronica Nelson to the plate, which is where the game was finally halted.

After a rousing game of Pictionary in the locker room during another rain delay on Monday morning before the game resumed, Nelson sent a 3-2 pitch through the left side of the infield to drive in Bowie and Due?as, giving the Bears a 3-2 lead.

That brought to the plate sophomore Courtney Scott, who picked a perfect time to hit her first home run on the year, sending a ball over the 200-foot sign in left field to bring in Harper and Nelson, capping Cal's six-run day-and-a-half inning.

The Huskies tried a rally in the seventh, sending one run across the plate to give the Bears a scare, but Deering got Jamie Clark to strikeout with runners on first and second to end the scoring threat.

After the game was resumed, Deering, who started the game, came to life in the circle, allowing just three runs (two earned) on nine hits on her way to her first Pac-10 win of the year and improving to 4-0 on the year. She finished the game with seven strikeouts

Shannon Walsh started the game for the Huskies and was responsible for the runners left on base when Nelson came up in the top of the third. She allowed four runs on three hits, and falls to 4-13 on the year. Tia Bollinger entered the game in the top of the third at the beginning of day two and allowed two runs on three hits with five Ks.

The Bears return home to the sunny and dry California weather next weekend for a series versus the Arizona schools. Friday, May 4, Cal hosts Arizona at 2 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday, Cal hosts Arizona State at 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. This is the last home series of the year for the Bears.
