CALIFORNIA HEAD COACH DIANE NINEMIRE:
"I think this was a great win for us. Michigan gave us everything they had. They scored first, but I knew we would come back and fight. We kept fighting every inning and played good defense to shut them down. I thought we had several opportunities to break the score open, but we like to make things interesting. I'm proud of my kids for coming back and not giving up."
On the success of the PAC-10 in the WCWS:
"I think there's a lot of talent in the PAC-10. We face the best hitters and the best pitchers during the season and we're not intimidated. We lost 14 games in the PAC-10 and only two games outside the league. We take our licks and beat up on each other and we're capable of beating any team in the country."
On what it takes to win the WCWS: "It's a combination of many things. You have to play tough defense and have great pitching. If you have a pitching staff, I think it's easier than just having one great pitcher. Home runs also might be a factor. Without pitching, it's tough to win. I also think it's about timely hits. It's not who gets the most hits, it's who gets the key hits when you have runners in scoring position.
CALIFORNIA PITCHER NICOLE DISALVIO
On her relief effort: "We know that we may have to come in at any time so we start every game like we are going to play. I was ready for it. "
On facing Stanford later tonight:. "Anytime we face them, it's a big game. We went head-to-head all season long and they won the series. I think we're excited. I know we can pull it off. We just need to keep our momentum."
