The California field hockey team came up short this evening as No. 19 Harvard upset the 15th-ranked Golden Bears, 4-1, at Jordan Field in Cambridge, MA. The Bears falls to 8-4 (3-0 NorPac) as the Crimson improves to 8-3 (4-0 Ivy)

Kate McDavitt gave Harvard a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the 21st minute. Elizabeth Andrews took the initial shot off of a penalty corner and McDavitt picked up the rebound and lifted it up and over Bear netminder Kelly Knapp and into the upper left corner of the net.

Cal came back to tie the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal from Michelle Wald in the 30th minute. The Bears were able to keep the remaining half tied a 1-1, despite Harvard putting up 8 shots to Cal's 3 and an having a 8-0 edge in penalty corners.

Andrews gave Harvard the lead for good with the eventual game winner at 50:25 when she blasted a shot off of a penalty corner. McDavitt provided the initial insert and Jen Ahn provided the stick stop to pick up assists on the goal.

Mina Pell gave the Crimson a 3-1 lead in the 55th minute. She was able to deflect a McDavitt shot into the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season.

Beth Sackovich registered the first goal of her collegiate career at 68:32 to provide Crimson the final 4-1 margin.

Knapp posted seven shots in the cage for the Bears and goalkeeper Katie Zacarian collected one save in the win.

Cal will return to action tomorrow, Oct. 18 for an 8 p.m. (ET) game at Northeastern at Sweeney Field.
