Box Score

The 16th-ranked California field hockey team remains undefeated in conference play after a 2-1 overtime win over Pacific Saturday afternoon at Brookside Field. With 35 seconds remaining in overtime, junior Nora Feddersen fired in the game-winning goal to clinch the Bears' seventh victory. The Golden Bears increase their record to 7-3 (2-0 in NorPac) as the Tigers fall to 1-7 (0-3 in NorPac).

Despite being down most of the game from an early goal from Pacific's Alexandra Fiorina, assisted by sophomore Lindsey Rovai, Cal's co-captains stepped up and scored when it mattered most. Junior co-captain Erin Booth, who normally is credited for her stellar defensive play in the backfield, provided the Bears with some offense today, scoring her first goal of the season with just over 16 minutes to play to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams were unable to put the game away in regulation time, forcing an overtime period. The Tigers had the first opportunity in the extra period, but the shot by freshman Dana Walsh was saved by Cal goalie Kelly Knapp. The Bears would fire the next three shots in overtime but the Tiger defense was able to hold off the Cal attack. Then in the final minute of overtime co-captain Feddersen grabbed an errant pass and weaved her way to a game-winning goal with 35 seconds left in overtime. This is the fourth straight game that Feddersen has scored in and her second game-winning goal, both in overtime, as she now leads the team with five goals and 14 points.

This win lengthens Pacific's current seven-game losing streak. Sophomore Knapp collected three saves in the victory as Gina Sadler notched eight saves for Pacific in the effort.

Cal returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. facing Bay Area rival Stanford in the first of two scheduled meetings for the season.
